Architect: Alison Ludwig

Demolition of the original dwelling began in May 2016, marking the start of a bold transformation in this prestigious coastal location.
The project came with its fair share of logistical challenges — a steeply sloping site and tight street access meant every stage of the build required careful planning and coordination. But with challenges come opportunities, and the result is a stunning home that truly maximises its setting.
Construction combined suspended concrete, structural steel, and timber — a solid foundation for a home built to last. The entrance immediately sets the tone, with a striking blend of western red cedar, stone cladding, off-form concrete, and crisp white render. It’s a simple yet refined composition that invites you toward the front door with elegance and restraint.
Inside, the home strikes a warm, welcoming balance. Solid American Oak flooring, recycled bricks, and finely crafted joinery work together with a curated palette of dark and light tones to create living spaces that are both comfortable and stylish.
Large north-facing windows and expansive sliding doors flood the interiors with natural light. From the lounge room, a vast entertaining deck opens out to views of the ocean. The suspended concrete deck is finished in naturally weathered Spotted Gum, paired with a Velux openable roof — perfect for soaking up the sun or stargazing by night.
The bathrooms are a standout feature, combining waxed natural solid Blackbutt, raw stone, and aluminium louvres. These luxurious materials frame sweeping views of Bronte Beach and its iconic surf, turning everyday routines into coastal retreats.
From the rumpus room, terraced Spotted Gum seating leads you down to the garden. Off-form concrete detailing and lush green turf create a private, tranquil space — ideal for sipping a drink and unwinding after a long day.
Built to endure the rigours of its coastal environment, this home continues to impress. It’s a testament to thoughtful design, quality construction, and the power of a renovation done right.
